Autel Robotics X-Star Premium Drone – Professional Grade 4K Recording

The X-Star Premium drone is all about making the highest quality video and every detail on this quadcopter appears to be dedicated to that function. The onboard 4K Ultra HD camera has a 108-degree field of view and it records in 4K at 30 fps, 2.7K at 60 fps, 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 frames per second.

The photo mode captures 12 Megapixel resolution photographs. The app offers a view of what the onboard camera is seeing and there is even a small LCD on the remote that shows flight telemetry.

The included 3-axis gimbal ensures completely smooth and jitter free operation and it can be removed when it is not needed. Both the gimbal and the camera are removable in case the operators choose to use a different camera equipment.

The flight performance is excellent and the movement speed is fast and responsive. The intelligent flight control system uses GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation combined with the Starpoint Positioning System to keep the X-Star flying stable. It also keeps it going precisely to predefined waypoints. We didn’t have the chance to see the SecureFly tech in action which is there to return the drone back to the operator in case the 1.2-mile rated transmission gets interrupted by interference. The battery lasted for up to 30 minutes of flight time and thanks to fast charging it gets back to full capacity in less than an hour.

Feature packed to rival the best camera drones out there the X-Star Premium has won over new users who want to capture professional-grade video footage.

Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K

We were pleasantly surprised with the Yuneec Q500 flying performance. The quadcopter soars fast across the sky and its climbing rate is surprisingly quick and it gets out of our visual with ease. The manufacturers 15 mph speed rating seems to be true. We tested it in stronger winds and it performed admirably seeing how the recorded video footage remained smooth and free of unexpected movement. The drone hovered in one place completely unaffected by the violent wind gusts. The 3-axis gimbal keeps the CGO3 4K camera stable during flight. For those who want regular Full HD 1080p videos, the camera records them at 120 frames per second. We didn’t like how the FPV video transmission breaks past 300 feet distances so that can be a disadvantage to many potential users.

When it comes to the battery endurance we managed to get an average of around 20 minutes of flight each time. It’s great that there are two of those included since a simple swap prolongs the flying session in no time. The included charger gets the batteries back to full level in less than an hour and a half.

Yuneec Q500 offers a nice alternative 4K quadcopter which comes with a set of high-quality accessories and equipment. The flight performance of this model is exceptional.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter 4K UHD Video Camera Drone – The Best Phantom Yet

The most expensive Phantom model from DJI is obviously intended for professionals who spare no resources when it comes to using 4K camera quadcopters for some aerial video making.

Buyers can even opt to buy only the drone at a lower price.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional

This is presumably thanks to the compatibility with most of the accessories used on the previous models. We were surprised to see how much the base price increases once we add some of the accessories which come as standard from some of the other manufacturers.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional package

The flying performance of the Phantom 3 is comparable to the rest of the Phantom series of models and we can simply rate it as being a stable and a reliable. It is great even for beginner drone operators. The climb rates and turn speeds are great and the flight range is exceptional. We tested our Phantom at well beyond visual range distances so there is potential for some really great high altitude scenery recording.

The 4K Ultra HD videos we recorded are definitely the best quality out of all the rest sub-1000 USD quadcopters that we’ve tested. The camera resolves more detail and works nicely even in lower light scenarios. The FPV system is great and reliable although we were already used to that from the previous Phantom models.

The intelligent flight batteries lasted a little bit more than 20 minutes on average and since there are two included users can easily swap them to extend the flight sessions further. The included charger refills them in under an hour.

The Phantom 3 offers absolutely the best 4K video quality and if you do not mind the possible lacklustre after sales support from DJI then this is the top model to get.

We had little doubt to the fact which one of the three quadcopters we tested would be placed on the last spot given its price to performance ratio. The model we recommend as a nice alternative is the Yuneec Q500 as it can be an unreliable performer so it is definitely not recommended for professional use. There is a good chance that it will let you down when you need it most. Nevertheless, the third spot on our test is well-deserved thanks to the great flying performance.

The DJI Phantom 3 takes the second place and we feel it makes the best video footage, however, this comes at an additional cost of needing to spend more for the accessories and we have some suspicion about the after-sale support seeing how there are plenty unsatisfied customers who are leaving bad reviews for this model.

We have to admit that choosing the top spot and the second place was a bit trickier. However, after plenty of debates and reconsideration, we’ve decided to give our recommended status to the X-Star Premium quadcopter drone. It is well equipped and comes with a great set of features and seeing how it performed flawlessly we’ve decided that it offers the best performance for the money invested. It gets top marks from us and is highly recommended.
